CHEC is a Christian homeschool community that provides support, activities and connection for families in the Longview area. Membership gives families access to park days, field trips, field day, holiday events, co-op opportunities, kindergarten graduation, a high school fall dance, prom, graduation and other community gatherings.

ELO stands for Extended Learning Opportunity. ELO is a parent taught and organized cooperative learning program that operates under the CHEC umbrella. It provides families with additional academic and enrichment experiences through structured classes, hands on activities and community connection.

ELO meets twenty times during the school year on Tuesdays for approximately half a day. Classes take place in the Longview area.

Families may participate in CHEC events and activities without joining ELO. ELO is an optional program that offers a more organized learning environment for families who want weekly classes and a consistent schedule.

ELO hosts an open house each spring where families can meet instructors, explore classes and learn how the program works. This event is usually held in March or April.

CHEC membership is open to Christian homeschooling families in the Longview area. There is an annual membership fee that helps support community events, the CHEC website and other group expenses throughout the year. All CHEC members are required to sign up for and complete a service. Service opportunities include planning park days, planning field trips or coordinating or helping with one of the many CHEC events. Please see the services for more information.

No. ELO is optional. Many families enjoy CHEC events and activities without participating in the weekly ELO co-op. We often even have members of other co-ops join CHEC for other activities and events.

Families complete the online membership application on the CHEC website. Once approved, members gain access to the private calendar, sign ups and community events. Please see this link: New Membership

Mini-mester is a short membership option that begins on January 1 and continues through April 30. If you are not currently a CHEC member and you are joining during the spring semester, the mini-mester is the option for you. It allows families to participate in CHEC activities during the spring months without paying the full annual membership cost. A service is still required for all mini-mester members.

Yes. Many CHEC events are family friendly and open to younger siblings. Some structured activities are designed for school age students or specific age groups, but community events welcome all ages.

CHEC hosts a formal graduation ceremony each spring for high school seniors. Families choose their own curriculum and complete their own academic requirements, and CHEC provides a meaningful ceremony to celebrate their accomplishments. Seniors are recognized individually, and families may invite guests.

You must be a current member of CHEC in order for your student to participate in graduation. If you are not a current member of CHEC, you must apply for membership by October 1. All CHEC members are required to sign up for and complete a service. It is suggested that those signing up specifically for prom and/or graduation should sign up to serve on one those committees, but there are many service oppurtunities.

CHEC hosts an annual prom for high school students. Prom is usually held in April. CHEC freshmen through seniors are allowed to attend the high school prom. Juniors and seniors may bring a plus one who meets the age requirements and follows CHEC guidelines.

Prom is a formal event with music, dancing and photography. A dress code is required for all students and guests. Dress guidelines are provided to members ahead of time so families can prepare well and ensure attire meets CHEC standards. Ticket prices are $70.
